Limb loss deserves a check for injury, conflict, and habitat problems. Do not assume that an injured crab will recover on its own or on a fixed schedule.
Prevent further contact if another crab is harming it. Keep habitat conditions stable, provide accessible varied food and calcium, and maintain access to freshwater and marine saltwater. If the crab is soft or actively molting, use the protective protocol rather than picking it up. If an unsafe location or continued contact requires transfer, follow the substrate-supported transfer steps in Help Now.
Severe trauma, abdominal injury, repeated limb loss, or multiple affected animals call for qualified assessment when available. Do not apply oils, medications, or household remedies unless a qualified professional directs them. Return a protected molting crab to the colony only after its exoskeleton has hardened and its strength has recovered.
