About & Sources

Hermit Crab City helps land hermit crab owners find practical care answers and understand why the details matter. Our beginner material generally focuses on the Purple Pincher, Coenobita clypeatus. Marine hermit crabs and other land species need different guidance.

We use established keeper references, including the Hermit Crab Association, Crab Street Journal, and Land Hermit Crab Owners Society. Much everyday husbandry guidance comes from keeper experience rather than controlled experiments. When references differ, we explain the difference; agreement among associated resources is not independent scientific confirmation.

Community questions help us decide what to explain. They do not, by themselves, prove an answer is correct. We write original summaries and keep private member details and research records off the public site. Owner observations are labeled as observations.

An editorial review is not veterinary approval. Serious injury, repeated shell loss, chemical exposure, or multiple ill animals may need a qualified professional. To suggest a correction, use the Contact page.
